Lancaster City Football Club (LCFC) launches an fundraising appeal after finding new dugouts “completely trashed.”
Following storms, Dudley, Eunice, and Franklin, Lancaster City Football Club has been badly affected. For the Dolly Blues, as they are affectionately called, the high winds brought on by these storms tore apart the dugouts, rendering them completely useless. For a club that is already on a tight budget, this was a tough blow.
The dugouts, which had been there since the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign, had seen their fair share of rough weather. However, the almost 40 mph winds that swept through the city proved too much to bear. The only Lancaster City Football Club dugout left standing was made of concrete block.
The club has now launched an appeal, hoping to raise £3000, so that another concrete dugout can be built. As well as the appeal, the club hopes to attract sponsors for this new dugout.
Raising these funds will be crucial for the club, with possible sanctions looming over them if they cannot get the dugouts rebuilt. Having recently achieved the English FA certificate that certifies that the grounds meets the league requirement, they are now at risk of no longer complying with the regulations. Failure to raise sufficient funds would likely result in a fine for the club that is already heavily reliant on volunteers.
James Cummiskey, LCFC commercial director and appeal coordinator, thankfully stressed in an interview, that relegation is not a consequence they expect to face.
Aside from the appeal, James Cummiskey went on to speak about Lancaster City Football Club’s desire to engage more with Lancaster University students. Looking for volunteers across the board, he invited any students wanting some voluntary work experience to get in contact with the club. They would be open to any number of roles including sports journalists and physiotherapists.
So far, Lancaster City Football Club has raised over £500 and hopes people will continue to donate. James noted that, as a thank you to anyone that donates, a plaque will be made to go on the back of the dugouts with all of the donors names. The club newsletter will also include names as a further thank you.
